The Sports Illustrated staff received word on Friday that they would be laid off. Authentic, the company that bought SI for $110 million five years ago, is ending its agreement with The Arena Group after it missed a $2.8 million payment. This news comes after The Arena Group, which also owns Men’s Journal, Parade, and TheStreet, laid off 100 employees. The SI Union Chair and SI NFL editor, Mitch Goldich, released a statement calling on Authentic Brands Group to ensure that SI can continue to serve its audience. The publication had previously come under fire for publishing AI-generated content under fake names, which the company denied before terminating their content relationship with AdVon Commerce.
