Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has undergone surgery on a fractured right index finger and will miss the rest of the 2023 regular season, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Herbert sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos and had to exit during the second quarter. As a result, he will be replaced by Easton Stick for Thursday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chargers’ loss to the Broncos was their fourth in five games, bringing their record to 5-8. Despite improvements on offense under new coordinator Kellen Moore, the team has struggled due to one of the worst defenses in the league.
Herbert joins a long list of starting quarterbacks who have missed time due to injuries, including Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, Kirk Cousins, Daniel Jones, Kyler Murray, Justin Fields, and Derek Carr. The Chargers have also been hit hard by injuries to key offensive players such as Austin Ekeler, Josh Palmer, and Mike Williams.
