New Orleans Saints Consider Hiring Controversial Coach Jon Gruden

The New Orleans Saints are interested in hiring Jon Gruden, who resigned from his coaching position in October 2021 after his offensive emails surfaced. Gruden visited with Saints officials during Week 17, and there is mutual interest in him joining the Saints’ staff if he doesn’t land a head coaching gig. Dennis Allen, who expects to return next season as head coach, wouldn’t give details about potential changes to the Saints offensive coaching staff. Gruden hasn’t coached since his resignation in October 2021, and he is currently suing the league and commissioner Roger Goodell over the leaks of his offensive emails. Before that, he was the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, where he coached quarterback Derek Carr. Carr had successful seasons under Gruden, throwing for over 4,000 yards each season. Gruden previously won a Super Bowl as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had previously coached the Raiders from 1998-2001.
