Remembering the Legacy of Former Raider Carl Weathers at 75

Carl Weathers, an actor in the Rocky franchise, movies like Predator, and The Mandalorian, died at age 76.

Although he was primarily known for his acting, Weathers also had a football career. He played in college at San Diego State University, winning the 1969 Pasadena Bowl and achieving an 11-0 season.

After college, he signed with the Oakland Raiders, playing in eight total games and appearing in the Raiders’ first-ever AFC Championship. He later played in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions.

During the football offseasons, Weathers worked as an extra and earned a bachelor’s degree in drama. He went on to star in iconic sports movie roles, including Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies and Chubbs in the comedy Happy Gilmore. He also appeared in Arrested Development.
