The Curious Case of Eric Bieniemy: Not Yet Named the Commanders Head Coach

The Carolina Panthers have a new head coach, Dave Canales, leaving the Washington Commanders as the last NFL team without a head coach. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Commanders’ top choices are Dan Quinn, Aaron Glenn, and Anthony Weaver. There is no rush for Washington to hire a head coach, even with the Senior Bowl event happening. Offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who was hired to elevate the team’s offense, may not be a front runner for the head coaching job. The Commanders finished 31st in Defensive DVOA. The offense, led by Sam Howell, struggled to get Terry McLaurin the ball and finished 26th in DVOA. Despite these challenges, the Commanders have the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, giving Bieniemy an opportunity to mold a new quarterback. He was interviewed for the head coaching opening but may not get the job. There is hope that a future opportunity awaits for Bieniemy.
